A 22-year-old man has been killed and another one has been hospitalised at Magadi Soda Hospital after being attacked by a hippopotamus in Shompole, Kajiado West. The incident occurred after the men went fishing at the Ewaso Nyiro River when the hippo struck and killed one and left another with serious injuries.

The chairman of the village elders, Lazarus Saigilu, has said that six people have died in a period of one year because of the hippopotamus invasion and that humans and wild animals cling to the reducing water and cause conflict between them.

Many cases of human-wildlife conflict have been witnessed in Kajiado County, especially at a time when the community is witnessing a severe drought.

According to Saigilu, Shompole location Chief Denis Kuyia has said that human Kajiado Countywildlife conflict is a norm and deeply rooted problem in the region. He has asked stakeholders and officers from the department of wild animals to take action and compensate residents.

In another incident, a middle aged man from Oloorkunono in Mosiro ward is fighting for his life 𝐢𝐧 Narok 𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 after 𝐡𝐞 was attacked by an elephant who has sustained serious injuries after the elephant hit him on the abdomen.
