Following Monday 20th March, demonstration called by Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga in pursuit of the government to lower the standard of living and seek answers for what he calls election malpractice in the previous year’s general election, police officers have been deployed in most parts of Nairobi.
Tonzi Radio has confirmed that a large number of well-equipped GSU have been deployed in the vicinity of the Kenyatta International Conventional Centre (KICC), where the demonstrations are expected to begin.
The demos, which are expected to be attended by Azimio La Umoja supporters marching to State House to seek an audience with the President, have called for officers to charge in all roads leading to the State House, while others have been seen barricading other roads such as University Way, Processional Way, and Arboretum Road.
Businesses appear to have not fully opened in Kisumu and Nairobi CBD, whereas other areas such as Umoja, Mathare, Mlango Kubwa, and Kamkunji have seen tight security with officers on patrol.
Winnie Odinga, daughter of Opposition leader Raila Odinga and Member of Parliament for the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA), claimed on Twitter this morning that she will attend the anti-government protest, writing on her page, “Meet me in the streets.”
