Cedrick Wawire Egesa, a 30-year-old computer teacher at Topline High School in the Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums, was sentenced to 20 years in prison by Makadara Law Courts’ Principal Magistrate Hellen Okwani after pleading guilty to defiling a 15-year-old student inside the computer laboratory. The incident, which occurred twice in March 16 and 19 this year, is said to be in violation of Section 8 (1) as read with Section 8 (3) of the Sexual Offences Act of 2006, after he defended himself in court, stating that the girl made several sexual advances to him, to which he later consented. After confessing to the school principal, who then informed the minor’s parent and the matter became more intense, the suspect was detained and sent to Imara Daima Police station. Thereafter, the suspect was transferred to Villa Police Station, where he was questioned and admitted to defiling the girl.
In response to Mr. Egesa’s plea for mercy because his wife and 4-year-old daughter depend on him, prosecuting attorney Jaqueline Omol said that the illegal relationship began last year and continued until this year, when it was reported to the school administration and the minor claimed the teacher had defiled him.
