The National Construction Authority (NCA) has suspended 18 contractors over poor workmanship which has led to the rise in number of collapsed buildings.
This came after conclusion of 21 inquiries done by the NCA board as stated by NCA executive director Maurice.
Speaking in Machakos during a partnership with the Kenya Editors Guid, Akech said that hundreds of buildings have collapsed and killed many.
Five contractors have been suspended for three years, 11 suspended for one year and two suspended for two years.
Akech said five contractors were suspended for three years, 11 were suspended for one year and two were suspended for two years.
The suspension period depends on the weight of what they have done. The contractors have lost their jobs for the period of suspension given.
According to research done by NCA in 2018, collapsing buildings have been mainly caused by technical issues sucha as substandard materials and lack of quality assurance.
