The high Court has issued temporary orders barring the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission ((IEBC) from printing ballot papers for Mombasa gubernatorial candidate Mike Mbuvi Sonko.
Sonko had gone to the high Court to challenge the IEBC Dispute Resolution Committee decision that barred him from contesting for Mombasa gubernatorial seat.
The three judges who ruled the decision also issued orders stopping the IEBC from gazetting the names of the six Mombasa gubernatorial candidates pending the hearing and determination of Sonko’s case.
The trio also stopped the Wiper party from nominating another candidate pending the hearing of Sonko’s petition.
IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati said Sonko had been disqualified because he had been impeached during his tenure as Nairobi governor.
Sonko was impeached on allegations of gross misconduct and violation of the constituion.
