Prosper Wandera, the Deputy Officer commanding Rumuruti Police Station, was stabbed on Thursday evening by a brewer and died on the spot during a raid at a chang’aa bar at Maundu Ni Meri in Laikipia West.

According to Laikipia County Police commander, John Nyoike, at around 8 p.m. in the evening, the officer who wasn’t armed had gone to conduct a raid at the bar in the Maundu Ni Meri retail center when the incident occurred.

“Reports indicate that, the officer had learned that some jerricans of the illegal liquor were on their way to a bar nearby. He made the decision to raid, but a brewer attacked him first,” Mr. Nyoike said.

It is reported that the police were alerted to the incident when a boda boda driver reported to the Rumuruti police station that a passenger he had driven to the scene had been stabbed to death following an argument with the brewer. This prompted the police to investigate the incident, where they discovered that it was one of their officer who had been struck on the chest by a sharp object.

“The incident was alerted to us by a boda boda driver, who had drove the police officer to Rumuruti town’s Maundu Ni Meri shopping center so that he could conduct an arrest at Jackline Lepere’s bar, where the person delivering 20 liters of chang’aa confronted him,” Police Boss said.

Mr. Nyoike, stated that they have started hunting for the suspect who escaped with a motorcycle after stabbing the officer and left the illicit brew at the bar.

The deceased’s body was transported to the mortuary at St. Benedict hospital in Nyahururu town.
