Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Wednesday morning arrested an officer of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) who was demanding a bribe from a victim of M-Pesa fraudsters.

EACC raided Luke Nyasangah, DCI Officer at Ggano Police Station, Nyandaraua County, as he allegedly asked for a bribe of Ksh.10000 to help the victim.

The victim had lost Ksh.115, 000 to the fraudsters, and when she reported the matter to Nyasangah, the DCI officer is said to have demanded the bribe to help recover the lost money.

The EACC was informed about the incident and ambushed Nyasangah, who was allegedly found demanding the bribe to continue the investigation.

Nyasangah told the complainant that the bribe was necessary to facilitate the tracking of fraudsters. The suspect has been taken into custody at the Charagita police station awaiting further processing.

The arrest is part of the ethics body’s efforts to stop corruption in the country, especially among those with powers like the police.
