Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i was placed under house arrest by Elite police officers in his home Karen, Nairobi County.

At the scene, it was impossible to determine with certainty why the former cabinet secretary was targeted for the operation.

According to reports, the former cabinet secretary was at home with his lawyer Danstan Omari, who said the police intended to detain Matiang’i.

Fred Matiang’i’s life was in danger, Danstan Omari said in a media briefing outside the former cabinet secretary’s home. He further stated that they were unaware of the intended raid.

“I can promise you that my client’s life is in risk because he is being treated as a wanted felon in his own nation. If the police intend to accuse him of any offense, he is prepared to give a statement to them. None of us were informed of the reason for the police’s home invasion,” Danstan said.

Around 10 p.m., the head of Azimio coalition, Raila Odinga, came at the former CS’s residence and condemned the police invasion, saying it is completely inappropriate.

“If Matiang’i has committed a crime worthy of arrest, it should be made known to him as well as the general public, and he will turn himself in for questioning rather coming to someone’s house at this hour of the night,” Raila said.

“Senior citizens being detained at this hour of the night is a concept that is utterly incompatible with society. It’s really unacceptable,” He added.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta, according to Lawyer Omari, has directed them to go to court to seek anticipatory bail for other former Cabinet Secretaries.

The police are reported to have left after the information broke out to the media.
