Residents of Koilel area in Ainabkoi in Eldoret town were puzzled on March 23 morning when they awoke to the body of a 12-year-old Emmanuel Kimtai, a grade two pupil, who had been killed and dumped in the area after going missing for several days.
According to reports seen by Tonzi radio, the boy’s mother, Rita Chemutai, claimed that he vanished on March 21 but didn’t come home, but the neighbors insisted that he was last seen during an overnight funeral.
“I expected him to return on Tuesday or Wednesday. I went to look for menial jobs because if I didn’t, my family would go hungry, hoping my boy would return, but he didn’t. He was a good boy who occasionally accompanied me on menial tasks.” Chemutai said in a report by Citizen TV.
The boy’s body was identified by his family at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary, where an autopsy was performed to determine what happened, and it was revealed today that the boy was sexually molested before being choked to death.
Eric Kiptoo Kipsang, the main suspect in the murder, was arrested by police officers in his home town, Kapsoya, where he reportedly fled after dropping the body in the area. Following his arrest, he complained of chest pains and was taken to hospital, where he died on Sunday, March 26.
The deceased’s family has begun funeral preparations, and they are appealing to well-wishers and the government for assistance because the mother is incapacitated.
