A woman who allegedly tried to smuggle 600 grams of cocaine from Kenya to Madagascar was arrested on Tuesday night at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as she tried to leave the country.

32-year-old Damaris Adhiambo was arrested and detained in a police cell around half past four on Tuesday night when she was trying to escape security checks at the airport. The DCI has reported that the suspect was detained at a security checkpoint as she was about to board her flight to Madagascar after a body search revealed suspicious items hidden in her private parts.

Following the arrest, the police interrogated the suspect where she revealed that she had been hired to do the job by a Ugandan citizen living in Nairobi. Detectives searched for another suspect, Ms Harriet Asaba and found her in the CBD CBD where they also arrested her. The suspect later led the officers to her office where another 33 cocaine pills were found. Three other suspects; Shirah Nangozi from Uganda, Esther Wanjiru and Sophia Kathambi, were found at the crime scene and arrested.

Detectives have explained that further investigations are being conducted to find the person intended to receive the drug in Madagascar.
