The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has said it is an independent Commission and that it will not carry out its duties in favour of anyone’s opinions.
Speaking during Kenya Private Sector Alliance (kepsa) meeting in Thursday, the commission’s chairman Wafula Chebukati said that they would not be swayed by an individual’s opinion.
“IEBC is an independent institution. We are not directed by any individual, authority or institution. We are answerable only to the constitution and the law of the land,” said Chebukati.
Chebukati said this in response to the claims that the commission would not be allowed to conduct elections if at all they do not provide both electronic and manual voter registers during the August 9th election.
The Azimio president candidate Raila Odinga, on Wednesday, 6th July made remarks that the IEBC should not conduct elections in absence of both manual and electronic registers.
Odinga claimed that his opponents had a plot in place to infiltrate the ballot papers.
The Commission has already received the ballot papers today at the jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
