The government of Mozambique has announced its collaboration with authorities in Moscow to investigate the untimely death of Russian Ambassador Alexander Surikov.

Surikov, aged 68, was discovered deceased on Saturday night at his official residence in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, as reported by local media outlets.

The exact cause of his passing remains undisclosed.

While local media suggested that Russian authorities declined to conduct an autopsy on the ambassador’s body, the Mozambican public prosecutor’s office stated its lack of awareness regarding such claims.

President Filipe Nyusi expressed his condolences, acknowledging the significant loss and praising Surikov’s commitment and remarkable diplomatic prowess. Surikov had assumed the ambassadorial role in 2017.
