A Kakamega man has shown dreams are valid after sharing photos of his exquisite three bedroom house. Cyrus Muhati is in his final stage of completing the construction of the beautiful house along the Kakamega-Kisumu highway. In an exclusive interview, the 29-year-old disclosed it took him a whooping Ksh 4.8 million to build his village bungalow.

He revealed that he purchased the one and a half – acre piece of land where the house has been built in 2018 at Ksh 3.2 million. “In fact when I purchased the land I had no vision to build a home. In January 2021, my dad approached me and gave me a special advice to build there. At that time I had like Ksh 1.2 million in my account, so l decided to start looking for a plan for my dream house. After receiving several plans from architects, I chose one. I looked for a contractor and he came out with the quotation according to the house I wanted.” Muhati said.

The young man who is also a father of triplets, disclosed that he used 3,880 stones which costed Ksh 300,000. Iron sheets, nails, ridges and plain sheets costed Kshs 895,000 while frames costed Kshs 380,000. “The dream house that I built is a three-bedroom all unsuited. The reason why I came up with this vision was because I was spending a lot of money to pay rent and my family was really growing so the encouragement from my parents and my wife motivated me a lot,” Muhati added. “The total cost up to the finishing (gypsum, wardrobe, plastering, molding, fascia board, tiles, painting, lighting and others)
were almost at Ksh 4.8 million without furniture. So the total cost could be more.” He added.

He said that despite the motivations from his family to come up with the plan of building a house, he experienced a lot of challenges during the course of construction including running out of funds. This was definitely not the end of the road because it was not something easy and the only way to achieve this was through hard work and patience.

He advised upcoming house owners to be patient if they want to fulfill their dreams. He noted that they should build within their budgets because the main agenda is to save more after finishing the house project and this would be saving on the rent money.
