Police officers in Mwea East, Kirinyaga County are looking for a man who is suspected of murdering his wife Joyce Nginya, 44, on Sunday evening of February 26 and buried her body in a shallow grave within their marital home in Thiba North village.

Jane Njeru, the deceased sister, claimed that she alerted the police after she received a call from her sister’s children on Sunday morning notifying her that she had gone missing which prompted her to visit her sister’s home where she found her sister’s body buried in a shallow hole beneath the bed.

“My sister’s children contacted me this morning to let me know that their mother was gone. When I arrived, I was surprised to find her body buried beneath her bed, and I immediately alerted the police,” Jane said.

Mwea-west Sub-county Deputy Police Commander Sammy Beauttah who confirmed the incident, said that they arrived at the scene after one of the victims’ relatives reported it to the Kiamaciri police station, where they discovered the body buried in the house and began the process of digging it up after the court allowed it.

“The family members reported the incident to Kiamaciri police station, and after visiting the house, we discovered the victim’s body, Joyce Nginya was buried in a shallow grave, and we began the process of exhuming her body following a court order from the Baricho law court,” Said Mr. Beauttah.

Her body was taken to Kerugoya Hospital Mortuary, as the investigation into the whereabouts of the suspect, the identity of whom is unknown to many, including her relatives, continues.
