Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki unveiled a new specialized unit within the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) during his Senate appearance.

The unit’s primary focus is to monitor threats against bloggers on social media platforms, reflecting ongoing concerns about online safety.

Kindiki highlighted active investigations spanning 19 counties, targeting groups responsible for online attacks and offline violence against individuals expressing diverse opinions through digital platforms.

Moreover, he addressed the arraignment of several suspects in connection with the tragic murder of Meru-based blogger Daniel Muthiani Bernard, alias Sniper, expressing a commitment to holding all responsible parties accountable.

The case surrounding Sniper’s murder, occurring after his abduction on December 2, 2023, underscores the complexities of the investigation.

Allegations linking his death to criticism of Meru’s Governor, Kawira Mwangaza, prompted further scrutiny.

Kindiki assured the Senate of a thorough investigation, emphasizing the importance of evidence in securing justice.

With Governor Mwangaza’s brother among the five suspects arrested and arraigned, the case is set to resume on May 24th, signaling the family’s quest for accountability and closure in the pursuit of justice.
