In an effort to ease the hunger pains that have impacted millions of Kenyans, at least 40, 000 families have benefited from an ongoing food distribution exercise by the Catholic Church.

Archbishop Anthony Muheria of the Nyeri archdiocese stated on Sunday that the church had raised nearly Sh45 million through the Hope 4 You initiative since it was started to aid those in need of food.

“We have gathered food and money totaling Sh45 million, and to date, we have donated Sh15 million worth of food to communities in the counties of Laikipia, Isiolo, Kitui, and Nyeri. We have assisted people throughout the county, especially in the slums,” Muheria, said.

The Archbishop urged the congregation to provide a helping hand to those who are in dire need, such as the elderly, children, and the weak members of society at this time when the economy is not doing well.

“I encourage all of us, regardless of our religious affiliations, to share what God has given us with those who are less fortunate,” He added.

He pointed out that counties like Nyeri once produced enough food to satisfy all of its residents, but that now hundreds struggle to put food on the table as a result of irregular rainfall during the past three years.

Archbishop Muheria praised private organizations for responding to his plea to aid the needy by contributing food and money to the campaign, and he urged everyone to participate with whatever small donation they are able to make.

“I want to honor the private organization for they have really helped with the initiative at a bigger deal. Hearing that there are people who are suffering from hunger and struggle without anyone coming to aid them is quite sad and terrible. And that’s why am pleading with you to help them any way that you can,” He said.
