New miraa regulations have been put to effect after its formulation three years ago.

The new regulations are set to govern the production and trade of miraa I’m the country. The regulations will ensure quality production of miraa nothing for local consumption and for exportation.

Miraa is a plant that is widely grown in Meru County, Nyambene region.

The new miraa policy outlines that:

-The vessels used to transport miraa would be designed in a manner suitable to ensure maintenance of optimum temperatures and hygiene to prevent the goods from spoilage, contamination and damage.

-The plant shall not be transported together with other goods that might contaminate it or affect its quality.

-There shall be codes indicating the country of origin.

The outlined regulations will ensure quality production especially for exportation and to avoid exploitation of farmers.
