The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has arrested several pedestrians for failing to use pedestrian crossings and bridges while crossing roads in the capital. Through the official page of X NTSA said that it is necessary for pedestrians to use designated routes and crossing areas to ensure their safety.

Photos shared by the Authority show NTSA officers as well as police officers arresting pedestrians at different crossing points in the capital. The search comes as part of the new reforms introduced in the sector by Transport Minister Kipchumba Murkomen and his Home Affairs counterpart Kithure Kindiki following the increase in accidents.

The operation launched at the beginning of March, which initially targeted drivers, resulted in the arrest of 22,958 drivers, of whom 1,086 were charged with driving while intoxicated. According to accident statistics from NTSA, pedestrians also contribute to the majority of deaths along with motorcyclists and passengers as well as passengers of public service vehicles.
