Most tissue brands that were going for ksh.20 are now ksh.45 while others are as high as ksh.60.

Kenyas have taken to social media to complain and seek an explanation for the rise in prices of tissue paper.

The head of toilet paper sub sector at the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), Mureithi Regeru said that the prices of raw materials ysed in the production of tissue papers have gone up.

We import most of the raw materials from Egypt. The producing nation has since increased the per unit cost by 50 per cent, compared to the prices in early 2022. The weakening of the Kenyan shilling against the US Dollar has also affected the foreign exchange rate. Today, the dollar trades at around Sh117. In January, it was trading at Sh113. That affects our ability to bargain in the foreign market,” Regeru told The Standard.

Regeru also said that the prices of tissue paper have been influenced by the high prices of polythene bags used for packaging and the high prices of fuel used I transportaion during distribution.

As Kenyans still feel the pain of increase in prices of major food prices and cooking gas, they look forward to lower prices.
