On Monday, ten more bodies were exhumed from shallow graves as part of the ongoing third phase of exhumations in Kilifi County’s Shakahola forest.

This brings the total number of bodies suspected to be followers of controversial pastor Paul Mackenzie, who is thought to have manipulated the victims into starving to death so they might see their creator, to 284 people.

Coast Regional Commissioner Rhoda Onyancha reported that 93 family members who are hunting for their missing loved ones have had DNA samples collected so far.

She said that no one was saved on Monday, leaving a total of 95 rescues and 19 people who have been reunited with their families.

Onyancha further stated that there are still 35 people in detention since no new arrests have been made.

Onyancha added that 613 people had been reported missing while providing the daily update at the command post at the Kilifi Sub county Hospital.

The exhumation exercise is expected to continue tomorrow.
