An enraged mob burned to death three thugs on Wednesday night after they snatched a handbag bag from a woman and attempted an unsuccessful escape in Thika-Makongeni area, Kiambu County.

The suspects, who fled with a gateway motorcycle towards Thika town after stealing the bag, were nabbed by boda boda riders who were alerted to the situation by the woman’s screams because they were obstructed by an oncoming matatu, causing the driver to lose control and fall on the road.

According to Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), when the police got at the scene of the incident, the thugs had just been lynched to death after being beaten by the enraged bodaboda riders and other locals before being set ablaze.

“The boda riders then attacked the thugs with hits and kicks, accusing them of tarnishing their reputation by using motorbikes as their entry point after committing crime, which resulted in beating the thugs and burning them,” Read the DCI statement.

According to police records, three knives, one mobile phone, and the woman’s stolen handbag were recovered. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the General Kago Hospital Morgue for identification by their relatives.
