After being set free by Bungoma court, Eliud Wekesa alias Yesu Wa Tongaren has gotten a scholarship to join a theology school to learn more about the true Jesus.  Wekesa was detained for five days while investigators looked into the religious activities of the new Jerusalem church.

He had been accused of running a religious cult in Tongaren, claiming to be Jesus Christ, teaching radical ideologies to his followers, and promoting money laundering and acquisition, possession, or use of proceeds of crime.

The scholarship to be offered by Angaza Bible College will enable him to undertake his religious activities legally. According to the college’s vice chancellor Kennedy Ananswa Musee, Yesu Wa Tongaren needs to join the institution to be educated on theology, be certified, and register his church as per Kenyan law.

“He has allowed us to see his Bible. We have also engaged him and we have seen that he is using the normal Bible. We have told him that it is wise for him as a servant of God to join a theology school because he needs a theology diploma certificate,” Musee said.

The management of the college’s Bungoma branch has refuted claims by some leaders that Yesu Wa Tongaren doesn’t value education.

On his part, Yesu Wa Tongaren urged other religious leaders to emulate the clergy members who visited him.
