A catholic priest from Ruai has died under mysterious circumstances after a night out at Monalisa hotel, Delview in Murang’a. According to Gatanga police Commander Lawrence Geru, 43-year-old Joseph Kariuki checked into the hotel on 7th July 2023 in the company of his alleged girlfriend 32-year old Ruth Karanja.
At around 8 am on 8th July 2023, Ruth notified the hotel management that the priest was feeling lightheaded. The hotel manager along with hotel staff took the priest to a nearby hospital where he was later on pronounced dead. The incident was reported at Samuru Police Station.
Police officers from Samuru Police Station found Kariuki’s body partly wrapped in hotel sheets and foaming from his nose and mouth. Ruth the alleged girlfriend of the priest is said to have been his colleague at Saint Peter’s Catholic Parish where he served. The two are said to have had a romantic relationship for the last six years.
The body of Kariuki is awaiting autopsy at the Mater Hospital mortuary in Nairobi as police begin investigations into the incident. Samples of food and drinks consumed by the two have also been collected for further analysis.
