A brazen criminal gang has struck the bustling central business district of Mombasa, preying on unsuspecting shoppers at supermarkets. With more than twenty members, the group operates boldly in broad daylight, snatching goods and valuables from their victims. Witnesses report that the gang resorts to violence, injuring those who resist their theft.

The recent incident was captured on CCTV footage taken at 5 pm on Monday along Haille Sallasie Avenue in Mombasa town. The footage reveals a chilling scene where the gang, disguised among residents, targeted a shopper exiting a supermarket in Bandari. Approximately ten members of the gang swiftly surrounded the victim, with one holding him by the neck while others rifled through his possessions and looted his shopping bag. Before long, another group of assailants approached, ready to strike.

Reports indicate that the criminals seamlessly blended into the crowd, disguising themselves among residents queuing for food aid from a local philanthropist in the area. Mombasa County Commissioner Mohammed Noor has assured the public that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is actively pursuing the matter. Noor also announced measures to relocate youths receiving food aid to the Kibarani area, aiming to keep them away from the city center and potential criminal activities.

Authorities urge any victims of the gang’s robberies to come forward and report their cases promptly. Despite efforts to apprehend them, the members of the gang involved in the recent incident remain at large.
