Israeli leaders seem to have concluded that in order to properly contain Iran, they must retaliate against its massive missile attack.

Visiting the Nevatim air base, which was partially damaged by the Iranian attack, Israel’s army chief, Herzi Halevi, told air force soldiers that Iran’s missile launch cannot be allowed to go unanswered.

The challenge for the war cabinet is to find a way to deliver a strong message without provoking a regional crisis.

Iran carried out its unprecedented attack in retaliation for a deadly airstrike on its embassy in Damascus, which was allegedly carried out by Israel, and has signaled that it has no intention of continuing further attacks.

World leaders have expressed fears that there is now the possibility of more open war between the long-time rivals and the violence resulting from the war in Gaza will spread further.
