The former Director General of the National Museum of Kenya Mzalendo Kibunja is expected to appear in court today Tuesday to answer charges of embezzlement of public funds.

Kibunja and three other officials of the national museum were arrested on Monday by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for allegedly embezzling 490 million shillings.

Kibunja was arrested along with three other officials of the National Museums of Kenya, among them Oliver Okinyi, an ICT officer and Oscar Mwaura.

Mwaura is said to have led the recruitment of air workers who were paid money which was later transferred to private accounts.

The embezzlement is said to have taken place over a period of five years.

The four were detained at the EACC Integrity Center police station pending their appearance in court on Tuesday.
