Gloria Carter, mother of rapper Jay-Z, wed her longtime companion Roxanne Wilshire in a star-studded event in New York.

Beyonce, a well-known performer, and Jay-Z were among those there when the ceremony took place on Sunday night.

Tyler Perry and Kelly Rowland, two A-listers from Hollywood, were present. Tina Knowles and Robin Roberts were also present.

The marriage takes place five years after Gloria came out as a lesbian in her son’s song, “Smile”  which was featured in Jay Z’s album 4:44 that came out in 2017.

Gloria explained in the song that she led a dual existence, one filled with enjoyment and the other with fear of what other people would think, say, and even do about her new status.

“….Mama had four kids, but she’s a lesbian, had to pretend so long she’s a thespian, had to hide in the closet so she medicate society shame and the pain was too much to take, cried tears of joy when you fell in love, don’t matter to me if it’s him or her….”

In the West, Jay-Z received a lot of credit for embracing his mother and providing her with a platform to speak her mind. He also thanked her for letting him tell her tale in 2019 at the GLAAD Media Awards.

Beyonce has also praised her late uncle, Jonny, who openly came out as gay in the past, and praised him for his tenacious fight against HIV.
