Police in Migori County are investigating a suspected food poisoning incident in Kuria West sub county that led to the death of four people and left eight others hospitalized.

According to Kuria West Police Commander Mr. Cleti Kiumaiyo, police received a call from residents claiming that some people from Kubweye and Kunguku villages had been hospitalized at Samjomen medical facility from food poisoning.

 

Police from Isebania police station visited the hospital and confirmed that four people had died from the incident. They were identified as David Marwa aged 52 years, Nyasenso Hisingo aged 55 years, Mwita Manaigwa aged 45 years and Samson Moti aged 52 years.

Kimaiyo stated that eight people were treated at Samojmen Medical Facility and the medical reports indicated that the patients had breathing difficulties, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain when they were brought in.

They were later on transferred to Migori Level Four Hospital for further treatment. The bodies of the four who had succumbed were taken to Akidiva hospital mortuary pending autopsy reports as police investigations go on.

Police also visited the home of one of the deceased identified as Nyasenso Hisingo in Kubweye village to offer condolences to the family.
