Police in Ururi, Migori County are investigating an incident where a man killed himself after the wife refused to cook for him chicken. According to assistant Chief John Atonya, the 45-year old man identified as John Rugala locked himself in their house and set it on fire.
Police reports indicate that the wife refused to cook the chicken since it belonged to their daughter. The wife told him to get permission from their daughter. John then sent away his wife in anger before setting the house on fire.
Assistant Chief John Atonya said that the body of the deceased was moved to Migori Level Four Hospital mortuary as police investigations go on. Friends and neighbors of the family believe that the man might have been going through depression and the chicken incident was his last straw.
Authorities have urged couples to seek counselling and opt opt for other methods of conflict resolution.
