The Union of Doctors and Dentists in Kenya has issued a notice of a national strike that has start today midnight. The General Secretary of KMPDU Davji Atellah, in his statement, said that the decision was reached due to the lack of understanding with the government regarding issues affecting health workers across the country.

Atellah said that despite their previous seven-day strike notice, the government has refused to address the plight of health workers. Therefore, it is with great regret that we announce the start of a nationwide strike starting at midnight today, March 13, 2024,” said Sec-Gen. The head of KMPDU blamed the government for reluctance to find a solution, despite the existence of negotiations.

The doctors had earlier threatened to go on strike if their demands in the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) were not met. The union had also demanded a refund of the deducted house tax, citing it as illegal.
