As the organized Azimio La Umoja demos just finished week two yesterday, and a massive number of people came out to exercise their constitutional right of picketing and protesting in various parts of the country, many people, including police officers, have been reported injured, and others have died.
Corporal Ben Oduor, of the Keroka Police Station in Nyamira County, was reported dead while receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Aga Khan Hospital, where he was brought in with serious injuries after protestors descended on him while he was guarding and keeping the peace around Jamia Supermarket.
Kisumu County Police Commander Alphonse Wambua stated that the victim was assigned in his jurisdiction around Juakali area, and that when they arrived at the scene of the incident, they rushed the injured officer to the health facility.
The demonstrations, which have sparked a variety of responses, have seen Muranga County Member of Parliament, Sabina Chege, speaking at Kambara Secondary School in Mathioya Constituency plead with Azimio La Umoja leaders to call off the scheduled demonstrations, claiming that they have no economic benefits.
