The Nairobi police are on the hunt for a preacher following accusations from over 4,000 individuals who claim to have been defrauded of millions of shillings under false pretenses of securing overseas employment.

According to a report broadcasted on Citizen TV, the suspect, identified as a pastor of a local church, stands accused of swindling congregants, mostly members of his own church, out of more than 600 million shillings.

The preacher, who operated from an office within a city building, is currently evading authorities and is believed to be in hiding.

Reports indicate that over 4,000 Kenyan nationals have stepped forward, alleging that the preacher deceived them by promising lucrative job opportunities abroad in exchange for payments ranging from one hundred thousand to one hundred and fifty thousand shillings.

Efforts by officers from the DCI investigation department to apprehend the suspect were partially successful, resulting in the arrest of some employees at the preacher’s office. However, the pastor remains at large.

Victims of the alleged fraud have expressed frustration, claiming that despite making payments, they received no follow-up assistance from the preacher’s company regarding their supposed employment prospects abroad. Many have reported having to repeatedly seek updates on their applications without success.

Most of the victims are young adults who recently completed their studies, with a significant portion being members of the preacher’s congregation located in Roysambu, a suburb on the outskirts of Nairobi.

The police urge anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the wanted preacher to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
