A bizarre incident that happened on June 28th 2023 has left the residents of Njoro, Nakuru in awe. A sick middle aged woman vomited a dead rat. The mother of four who had been sick for over a week said she was feeling unwell at night and she started vomiting.
At around 3 am she felt a hard object stuck in her throat and vomited it and when she lit her torch she realized it was a dead rat. Speaking to the media, locals accompanied by her father and a village elder called it witchcraft. According to them, someone who had a disagreement with the woman is suspected to be behind the incident.
Concerned locals thronged the village looking for answers after the victim’s father broke the news to the neighbors. Elders will perform a cleansing ritual for the victim as they look for whoever might have been involved.
Witchcraft is not a new subject in Kenya as it happens daily. Most people have been victims of black magic and it is a force to be reckoned with. A survey was conducted to determine Kenyan communities that have the highest rate of witchcraft.
At the top of the list was the Kamba people who are regarded as the masters of witchcraft. They are followed by the Mijikenda tribes and last on the list is the Kisii community .
