On Tuesday night, law enforcement authorities made a significant breakthrough in their fight against drug trafficking, leading to the arrest of one individual and the seizure of suspected marijuana valued at Ksh.37 million.

According to reports, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), in collaboration with officers from Genoso police station, pursued a convoy of four vehicles along the Migori-Kisii highway at approximately 11 pm. The convoy consisted of two Toyota Proboxes and two Toyota Hiace Matatus.

As officers closed in on the convoy, the driver of one of the Toyota Proboxes attempted to evade capture, prompting a high-speed chase. Two rounds of 9mm ammunition were deployed to deflate the vehicle’s tires, forcing the driver to abandon the vehicle and flee the scene, leaving behind traces of blood in the driver’s seat.

However, one occupant, identified as Joseph Nisa Ouma, aged 39, was apprehended at the scene. Upon inspection, Ouma was found to be in possession of Ksh.30,000 in various denominations, suspected to be proceeds from the illicit activity. Authorities believe Ouma to be the primary trafficker involved in the operation.

Additionally, the two Toyota Hiace Matatus, also part of the convoy, were abandoned by their drivers and subsequently towed to Genoso police station for further investigation. A search of the impounded vehicles revealed fifty sacks containing dried plant material suspected to be marijuana, with an estimated street value of Ksh.37.5 million.

The successful operation underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat drug-related crimes in the region. Investigations into the matter are ongoing, with efforts underway to apprehend all individuals involved in the illegal drug trade.
