Two people have been arrested in Nigeria for allegedly trying to seduce an Australian schoolboy who committed suicide.

Australian police say the young victim had sold indecent images to someone online before making threats and demanding money.

After an international investigation, the two allegedly involved were traced until they were found in Nigeria, where they will be brought to court.

Police say sexual abuse – especially of young people – is on the rise.

Details of the boy’s age or where he lived in New South Wales have not been made public to protect his family’s privacy.

New South Wales police described the alleged robbers as “young males” and said they threatened to send pictures to the boy’s friends and family if he did not pay them a$500 (£260; $330).

“The message is appalling. It’s very serious and puts a lot of pressure on the young man to pay up,” the police force’s cybercrime commander, Matthew Craft, told the Sydney Morning Herald (SMH).
