Rongo University has been closed indefinitely and all students have been ordered to leave immediately.

The senate of the college decided to close it because of the protest of the students, who were protesting the results of the election of their leaders. The students have been creating violence since Friday last week. By Tuesday, the guards admitted they faced an uphill task to restore order.

During the protest, the angry students destroyed property, while chasing the police who arrived there to disperse them. The Vice Chancellor of Rongo University, Prof Samuel Gudu also confirmed the closure of the institution of higher education.

Talking to the media through phone call the vice chancellor said “Yes, the University is closed. We will announce the dates for resuming studies later,”. In the controversial election, the following leaders were declared winners:

  1. President – ​​Mr Victor Apicha

2. Deputy President – ​​Mrs Mercy Wangari

3. General Secretary – Ochako Samuel

4. Sports Representative – Reuben Makena

5.Women  Affairs Representative – Gentrix Iminza
