Fear, grief and sadness flooded Bonyakoni village, Masimba town, Kisii County after the body of a woman in a coffin was abandoned on the road.
It is alleged that the deceased woman was brought and abandoned in the road near the compound of her first marriage.
According to news sources, the woman, whose name could not be identified, was married in the compound where she was abandoned for the first time before being evicted for allegedly not being able to give birth.
After she left, she went and managed to get another marriage before death caught up with her.
Reports informed that her relatives took her body out of the grave and then transported it directly to the compound where she was married the first time and then abandoned her body outside the compound.
The people who are alleged to be her relatives and the deceased abandoned the body of the woman beside the road leading to the house where she was married in the beginning.
It is reported that later the family of the first married came out and took her body and buried it and there was a funeral ceremony usually according to the traditions of the Omogusii community.
Various people from the Omogusii community condemned the act and said that the deceased should not be abandoned like that even if she was a bad person during her life time.
Elder Obino Nyambane who oversees the legacy of the community’s traditions and customs and who spoke to journalists in the county said;
“According to the traditions of Omogusii, if a woman was married in the first marriage and was given a dowry and then she was expelled or left, then she will be returned to be buried after her death.” Mzee Nyambane told Bosong said.
