TANZANIA has taken a new step in the aviation sector, following the production of three new aircraft at the technical center of the Morogoro Regional Airport.

The facility, launched in 2021 by Airplane Africa Limited (AAL) from the Czech Republic, is the first to manufacture aircraft in Africa. The Skyleader airplanes are capable of carrying two passengers.

The great achievement comes a few weeks after the President Samia Suluhu Hassan gave instructions to the Tanzania Railway Corporation (TRC), to start testing the electric train using the Modern Railway (SGR). Tanzania built the modern railway between Dar es Salaam and Morogoro. President Suluhu said that by July 2024, Tanzania should have started transport services using an electric train.

The nation has been postponing the launch of such modern transportation services in this region since April 2017. Stakeholders say the tests mark a very big step in the growth of the transport sector in Tanzania. The train that will be used is said to be unique, as it will travel at a speed of up to 160 kilometers per hour.

While Tanzania continues to achieve great success in the transport sector, the situation is different in Kenya, as many people have been complaining about poor infrastructure, especially in airports. At the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), many passengers have been complaining about the rain, despite the government’s announcement of repairs. The stadium has also been suffering from frequent power outages. In February,a report said that it is ironic that the stadium is suffering from severe infrastructural problems despite the measures taken by the government to improve its condition.

In railway transport, the modern railway in Kenya between Nairobi and Mombasa is said to be of low level, compared to the modern railways built in Tanzania and Ethiopia respectively.
