What started as a normal Wednesday on the Madaraka Express Train turned into a delightful day when a mother gave birth on board. Kenya railways confirmed this in a tweet saying, “We are delighted to share a heartwarming story of a mother who welcomed her bundle of joy on board the Madaraka Express Passenger Service train to Mombasa”.
A doctor by the name of Indanyenyi Luseso who was on board assisted with the delivery, with help from the passenger Attendant, Ms. Mary Nyiha. Fauziya Lugogo, a nurse from Kenyatta National Hospital also helped in the delivery.
The train was heading from Mombasa to Nairobi Mombasa when the woman went into labor, prompting quick action from medics. The public has commended those who helped in the delivery, considering the fact that they had no delivery room and limited resources but still managed to perform a successful delivery.
A statement from Kenya Railways indicated that the woman was later rushed to Mariakani subcounty hospital for further medical assistance. In light of that event, Madaraka Express is considering employing paramedics that can assist in such situations.
